Happy Trafalgar Day everyone. Whoop whoop, it starts tonight! The Second Hartlepool Folk Festival starts at 6.00 pm in the Baltic Rooms with a movie and finishes Sunday at 10.00 pm in Hartlepool Town Hall with a concert. There’s loads to see and do.
Star of the show, despite the writer’s own bias, has to be Andy Irvine. He’s in concert in the Town Hall from 1.30 to 4.30 on Saturday.
Our home grown acts, The Young ‘Uns and the Wilsons are on the bill and I can particularly recommend a couple of off-shoots, Mike Wilson and Damien Barber and Ken Wilson and Jim MacFarland for full-blooded, proper British culture. Get some!
The Headland Folk Club host their singaround, Sunday, 23 October 2016, 11.00 am to 1.00 pm on the PSS Wingfield Castle.
The Pools Folk and Acoustic Music Club host their singaround in the Jackson’s Wharf pub, Saturday, 22 October 2016, 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm.
The Foggy Furze Folk Club host their singaround on Sunday, 23 October 2016, from 2.30, also in the Jackson’s Wharf pub. Local singers Rebekah Findlay (playing at the FFFC in December), John Garbutt, Jim Windram and Kay De ‘Ath are performing at various times and venues around the weekend.
You can get a fair copy of the programme from www/hartlepoolfolkfest.co.uk/what’s on when and also buy your tickets from the same site. It’s all happening this weekend. Get yourself there. Enjoy the festival then come along to any of the local clubs. The FFFC meets every Tuesday from 8.00, the Causeway Inn, only £1 for a regular singaround night and rarely more than £2 on a guest night.
