So how did you get on with that instrument you got last Christmas? Still in the box? Have you learned those first few chords? Why not give it an airing at one of your local folk clubs and feel proud of yourself for having achieved something this year.
There are at least three venues in Hartlepool for you to visit and show off your new-found skills:- The Foggy Furze Folk Club, Pools Folk and Acoustic Music Club and the Headland Folk Club.
The Headland Folk Club meets fortnightly on a Friday and is open tonight at the Duke of Cleveland on Church Walk, Headland, Hartlepool. This club is run by Paul O’Neill and starts at 8.00 pm.
Pools Folk and Acoustic Music Club meets each Monday in the Nursery Inn, Hopps Street, Hartlepool from 8.00 pm till close and is hosted by Yorkie Gibson.
The Foggy Furze Folk Club meets in the Causeway Inn on Stranton, Hartlepool, each Tuesday at 8.00 pm and the writer, Kay De ‘Ath is your welcomer. The next guest at the Foggy Furze Folk Club will be Rebekah Findlay and Friends on 13 December 2016.
Rebekah and her friends are established performers, having been to all of the local clubs at some point, and she did perform at the Folk Festival back in October. She plays violin and guitar (though not at the same time).
Each of the clubs accept £1 entry which usually goes towards either special nights of interest (such as a Christmas buffet) or paying for a guest performer through the year. Why not come and join in the fun? Every Tuesday from 8.00, the Causeway Inn, only £1 for a regular singaround night and rarely more than £2 on a guest night.
