Well the big news is the preparations for the Hartlepool Folk Festival, being held on the headland from 16 to 18 October 2015. Full details – see www.hartlepoolfolkfest.co.uk for a look at what’s happening. Tickets on sale now for a host of top notch performers. It’s big, it’s happening here in your town. Get a ticket now before they sell out.

In the hiatus before the big weekend, of course there’s loads of other stuff going on. Over at the Nursery Inn in Hopps Street each Monday, Yorkie plays host at the Pools Folk and Acoustic Music Club. Excellent evening, loads of instrumentation and talk of manly things like making fire (I don’t know why, they just do.)

And over at the Causeway Inn in Stranton, the Foggy Furze Folk Club have recently played host to Dave Gibb, that troubadour of Wanlockhead, who entertained with his usual wit and great style. Why not come along and join in our regular singarounds, each Tuesday from 8 till late.

Now we’re advised that the Headland Folk Club is changing its venue to the Duke of Cleveland in Church Walk (across the road from St Hilda’s church) and their next gathering will be on 22 May from 8.00 pm.

If you want to keep up on things folkie, you can keep in touch by getting onto kay@foggyfurzefolk.com or read this article again on www.foggyfurzefolk.com. It’s only £1 each to join in at the FFFC on a singaround night. Go on, you know you want to

  1. Hi there. Although I realise that this event is not actually taking place in the North East I’m hoping that it would be of interest to people in that area. I’m hoping to organise a canal boat trip for people interested in performing and listening to live acoustic music in relaxed singaround/session type informal gatherings. The trip will be taking place in September going around the Leicester ring. I am wondering if you could possibly help me by circulating the following information? I have included this as part of this email and as an A4 Microsoft Word attachment. Hopefully I will be organising some more trips of a similar ilk in 2016 so if anyone would like to be included on an email list please ask them to get in touch. Thanks in anticipation Neil

    Folk Afloat Reborn

You may have heard of the legendary folkie boat trips that gained fame cruising on the Leeds Liverpool Canal in the late 1990’s. Well, they are back, but with a different boat in a different, but equally beautiful, part of England!

The 2015 Revival of Folk Afloat will be a relaxing two week cruise around the wonderful Leicester Ring aboard a traditional narrowboat. The varied route taking in parts of the Oxford Canal, the Grand Union Leicester Line, the River Soar, a short section of the River Trent, part of the Trent & Mersey Canal, and the Coventry Canal. The route includes five tunnels, several aqueducts, and numerous locks. Crewing the boat will be communal with full instruction and advice provided by a very experienced commercial narrowboat skipper.

The boat will travel through countryside that is stunning, but of equal interest will be the opportunity to visit Leicester, Coventry, Loughborough, Rugby, Tamworth, Nuneaton, Burton, Market Harborough, Braunston, Fradley and Fazeley. The boat will also pass through the outskirts of Nottingham and Derby.

Each evening the boat will moor up close to a welcoming canalside hostelry where we will enjoy a delightful session of music and song in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The venues for the sessions are to be confirmed.

Food for all meals, inc full breakfast, lunch and the majority of evening meals is provided for on a communal catering basis.
