Welcome to the folk slot, everyone, are you ready to go Scottish this weekend?
Tonight is the regular fortnightly slot for you all to rush to the Fishermans’ Arms for the Headland Folk Club.
Sunday 25th is Burns Night so there are several offerings through the next few days where you can whet your appetite for traditional Scots Fayre.
On Saturday, 24 January 2015, at the Fisherman’s Arms in Southgate on the headland, Skyran are playing lots of Robbie Burns numbers in their inimitable fashion from 8.00 pm.
Over at the Nursery Inn in Hopps Street, Hartlepool, on Monday, 26 January 2105 from 8.00 pm, the Mad Hatters will be celebrating with some Burns numbers and some Scottish songs and there is to be mash, neeps n tatties if you want them.

The Foggy Furze Folk Club will be encouraging Burns and Scottish songs on Tuesday, 27 January 2015, but nothing is mandatory. We’re just there to have a good time and enjoy ourselves.

All in all there’s a chance of very heather-flavoured offerings whichever of the local clubs you attend this week so go with it and have fun. Kilts are optional but some form of clothing on your nethers will be recommended with the weather we’re being forecast.

Now the festivities are over, we can look at what’s happening locally in the weeks ahead.
Each of the local clubs are open again for your entertainment (though it must be said the Pools Folk and Acoustic Club didn’t close).

At the Causeway in Stranton, Hartlepool, the Foggy Furze Folk Club is back from a 1-week break on Tuesday, 6 January 2015, where Kay De ‘Ath shall host the evening’s singaround.

In the Nursery Inn, Hopps Street, Hartlepool, the regular home of the Pools Folk and Acoustic Club, the usual session will take place on Monday, 5 January 2015 and Yorkie shall be there to meet and greet.

The Headland Folk Club meets fortnightly at the Fishermans’ Arms, Southgate, Headland and their next session is Friday, 9 January 2015. The first Sunday session is not scheduled till 18 January 2015.

Both the Fish and the Nursery are hosting Burns Nights, more details to follow.

Why not take that new instrument you got for Christmas for an outing to one of the local clubs? There’s always room for a new performer. If you just want to listen, we’ll move along the bench so you can join in with us. You’ll be welcome whichever you choose.
