There is so much folk stuff going on in this town it’s impossible to not find something that doesn’t appeal to your folkie tastebuds. In the last two weeks there’s been a CD launch in aid of Help for Heroes over at the Nursery, there’s been the beer and music festival at West Rugby, there’s constantly music over at the Fisherman’s Arms on the headland (and they’re gearing up for another beer festival over the bank holiday weekend, theme to be decided).
There was a great reception for Jan and Mike Hall giving us a view of the music they like on Tuesday at the Foggy Furze Folk Club, held in the Athenaeum Club in Church Street, Hartlepool . The next guest night for the FFFC will be when we host Andy Broderick in September. Andy is a very talented Irishman who does modern traditional music of the highest calibre.
Tonight there’s the regular evening over at the Pot House, where Barrie Archer is the host for the Headland Folk Club. He’s looking forward to a great night again so get along early for a seat.
Whichever night you want entertainment, there’s something going on in your town. You’ll be made welcome whichever of the clubs you visit. Over at the FFFC, we will only charge you £1 for a singaround and £2 on a guest night.

I will start with the quote from facebook from kay ………Kay De ‘AthWell, what a night we had at the FFFC last night. Roundly entertained by Stuart Cunningham who played stuff from the 20’s onwards and he happily answered questions on playing, jazz, blues, life the universe and everything. Loved his fans too, they provided a great evening’s entertainment. We had a really smashing night, thanks to everyone who made it possible……………………………………And i will endorse the comment. Stuart was outstanding. At our folk club we treat ourselves to other genre on our guest nights and this time it was Jazz. Stuart is an excellent jazz guitarist although he himself prefers to think of his style as orchestra style guitar playing. whatever it is he is a brilliant exponent. a night that will live long in the memory of those who came to see him.
great to see Dave Dixon paying a visit with his wife Gwyneth, and a bunch of local folk hero’s came along to see “the man” as described by Martin Nesbit, with his mate Steve, Maggie Gee and others. a great night had by all. we are having a sing around next week although you dont have to sing, just come and enjoy the music. we meet at the Athaneaum Hartlepool on Tuesday evenings at 7 45 and its only a pound for folk fun. Ian
