Weekly News 14/02/12

First the bad news. Our lovely treasurer Jean has had an accident falling down some stairs and breaking her leg very badly. Jean has had an operation and is still in hospital recovering, its been over a week now. Alll the clubs best wishes go to Jean for a complete recovery.

The good news is Stan Gees band, The new prairie companions, were excellent and well worth the door fee in every respect. Great performances from Eve Marie Stan and not least Gabriel who despite his tender years played an excellent guitar and other various stringed instruments, Stan has an excellent protege to pass on his brilliant knowledge of music  to. No doubt in the future we will see them again.

On the election front there are 2 candidates for the chairman’s position so far.  Barrie Archer and Kay De’ath. both excellent members and stalwarts of the club. The election and Annua general meeting date has not yet been set, once Jean is well enough for the financial report we will set a date.

It’s a busy, busy week for the folkies in town.  Big event tomorrow at the Catholic Club in Marlowe Road, starts 7.30 with Maggie Gee and ending with the Backtrackers for a good dancey end to the evening.  It’s a fundraiser for the HCPT and will help send people with special needs on a respite break.  Tickets are only £3 and it’s the place to be.

Tonight is the fortnightly gathering of the Headland Folk Club over at the Cosmopolitan where Barrie Archer will welcome you with his usual bonhomie.  Get there early to get a seat.

At the Foggy Furze Folk Club, held at the Atheneum Club in Church Street, on Valentine’s night, Tuesday, 14 February 2012, we’re to be entertained by the New Prairie Home Companions.  Stan’s well on form at the moment with the best setting yet for his rich, strong voice.  Come along and listen, they’re good.

Over at the Nursery on Saturday, 18 February 2012, our old friend Martin Nesbitt is playing.  Martin has an unplummable depth of both comic and ballad songs, known and loved or new and loved anyway, simply because he wrote them and we know he’s good.                   All in all I think I’m going to have a very good fortnight, you can join in if you want.  Only £1 a singaround night over at the FFFC or £2 on a guest night.  You can get in touch on www.foggyfurzefolk.com or chat to me on kay@foggyfurzefolk.com.  Have a great fortnight.
