What a fortnight we’ve had in the folk world – visitors from all over the world, songs of pirates and emigrations, fund raisers and – wait for it – the new craze – bug racing.

At the Foggy Furze Folk Club at the Atheneum in Church Street, Hartlepool, we played host to Dave Gibb, a superlative Scottish performer and this week we were visited by new friends from Australia.  What a cracking jam session we’ve had this week.  Shame you missed it.

The next guests at the FFFC are Skyran and they will play for us on Tuesday, 14 June 2011.

Word of warning – the FFFC is taking a small break on Tuesday, 31 May 2011 and this is only because the Athenaeum must close for several days.

The Woodcutter played host to several of your local bands last Saturday and the patrons raised a wonderful £250 in aid of the RNLI.  This was partly raised by means of watching several little mechanical bugs buzz about.  They are so funny.

We have been told Martin Nesbitt will be playing at the Nursery Inn on Monday, 30 May 2011 which is the next bank holiday and there will be bug racing planned for that night.

You’re welcome in all the local folk clubs and they all give value for money.  At the FFFC it’s only £1 on a singaround night, £2 for a guest night.  Keep in touch on www.foggyfurzefolk.com or say hi to me on kay@foggyfurzefolk.com.  or ianferguson0@gmail.com It’ll be good to hear from you.

The club welcomed Dave Gibb all the way from bonnie Scotland. Dave is an excellent guitarist and song writer. His performance was out standing, his wonderful songs complimenting his guitar playing prowess. Easily the best playing we have heard this year. Dave will be back again in a year or so, folk singer song writers like Dave don’t come along every day.

Next week we have a sing around, come along and join us upstairs in the Athenaeum club for a pleasant evening indulging in our passion for music and verse. we kick of around 8 15 – 8 30.

At the Foggy Furze Folk Club, now at the Athenaeum in Church Street, Hartlepool, there are plenty of seats so why not come along.  Our next guest is Dave Gibb, who has played the FFFC before.  Dave is a Scottish singer/songwriter with a novel outlook on life, very entertaining lovely guitar player with some humorous self penned songs. Guaranteed to make you smile so get to the Athenaeum on Tuesday night, kick off 8 30, be early to claim your seat.

The Headland Folk Club is on again this evening, Friday, 6 May 2011 over at the Cosmopolitan on the Headland.  Singaround may start as early as 7pm I’m told so get there early for a seat.  MC Barrie will make you welcome as usual.

We’re advised by The Pools Folk and Acoustic Club that the excellent Martin Nesbitt is playing at the Nursery on Monday, 30 May 2011, a real Bank Holiday treat.

The Woodcutter is hosting most genially recently and we must alert you to a concert in memory of George Totty to be held on Saturday, 14 May 2011, where there will be at least four of your local groups playing as well as that new-fangled drum we seen played on Easter Saturday with great accomplishment.  Proceeds to the RNLI and tickets are £2.50.

So much folk, so little time.  Don’t forget to keep in touch with the web-site, www.foggyfurzefolk.com or speak with me at kay@foggyfurzefolk.com.  Remember, on £1 on a singaround night, £2 on a guest night at the FFFC.
