The Club held its annual general meeting this week and Ian and Jan presented the chairman’s report. The financial side represented by Jean was accepted by the members present. There was no election this year as Ian and Jan presented themselves for re election and were unopposed. So the club moves on from strength to strength and we are optimistically looking forward to our first year in the Athenaeum Club. Please come along to our new home and pay us a visit.

What a cracking night down at the Foggy Furze Folk Club last Tuesday, 12 April 2011.  Our guest was Martin Nesbitt who was absolutely on form with new songs and routines.  Teesside Steve called in as well and gave a great performance of two old rock standards which everyone joined in with.

The folk world was on the main stage on the 8th when a tour called to the town and featured our very own ‘Young ‘uns’.  These guys go from strength to strength, get to see them, they’re great.  Then they popped back to the Cosmopolitan to meet up with all their friends at the Headland Folk club and had a great rousing night of song and music, gossip and beer, it was a real great evening.  The Headland Folk Club is on again this Friday, 22 April 2011.

On 23 April 2011, there’s an evening to celebrate St George’s Day over at the Woodcutter pub in Kingsley Avenue.  That’s another reason to celebrate so why not pop over.  The evening is being run by Skyran.

The Nursery continues to hold it’s gatherings on a Monday, each week, so get yourself over there for a bit of a sing.

If you want to catch up on the folk scene in Hartlepool, why not look up www.foggyfurzefolk.com or get in touch with me on kay@foggyfurzefolk.com?  Only £1 on a singaround evening at the Atheneum when the FFFC are there on a Tuesday, each week from 8.30 pm, or £2 for a guest night.  Great fun, folking around.

On Friday 8th there’s a party evening planned by the Headland Folk Club in the Cosmopolitan with a mining theme so if you’ve got a mining song in your repertoire, get down there.  Two weeks ago there were visitors from the Tyne down to the Humber.  But get down there early anyway or stand for the evening.

Now over at the Atheneum in Church Street, Hartlepool, the Foggy Furze Folk Club are hosting an evening with Martin Nesbitt, one of the best comic singer songwriters on the circuit at the present time.  It’s still only £2 for a guest night in the salubrious surroundings of our new home so get down there and go home with your ribs aching.  He is SO good.

We’ve heard from Skyran, who’re hosting a St George’s Evening at the Woodcutter on 23rd April 2011.  The event is free so get down there and enjoy listening to your local songbirds.  Why not spend as long celebrating England’s patron saint as you did Ireland’s patron saint?

Have fun, whatever you choose to do.
