There’s so much going on this time of year all across the folk scene, it’s hard to fit it all in.

At the Nursery the Christmas party went with a swing and Blind Stag being as good as ever.  Food was great, party was jumping.

At the Foggy Furze the next night there was plenty of carols, plenty of Christmas songs and loads of bonhomie, another great night.  The next guest at the FFFC is a band called the Ghost of Smokey Joe and that will be on Tuesday, 11 January 2011.

The next night at the Cosmopolitan with the Headland Folk Club is Friday, 8 January 2011, which is roughly a month since the last one so it’ll be a good night to be there.  Remember, be there by 8.00 or you won’t get a seat.

Got a new instrument for Christmas?  There’s always someone at your local folk clubs who can point you in the right direction.  Want to see what it’s all about?  Why not visit the Foggy Furze Folk Club at the Travellers’ Rest, Stockton Road, Hartlepool, or keep in touch with us at the website, www.foggyfurzefolk.com and get in touch with me at kay@foggyfurzefolk.com.

Well the first thing I must do today is apologise to the Nursery Folk and Acoustic Club regarding their Christmas party.  Great new is – you haven’t missed it.  It’s actually on Monday, 20 December 2010 over at the Nursery in Hopp Street so you’ve still got time to go and enjoy it.  They’ve got Blind Stag playing, we’ve heard, and they’re a cracking band.  My apologies to Yorkie and Di for the earlier faux pas.

Yet more dramatic news – the Foggy Furze Christmas Party has changed itself.  Instead of playing host to Fiddlyn Man Doris (who we intend to re-schedule in 2011) on Friday, 17 December 2010, we’re now having a usual singaround night with nibbles, much as we did last year, on 21 December 2010 with carols if you want to sing them.

The Headland Folk Club was fun last Friday but only one person turned up in fancy dress, though he might have been wearing the family plaid as a statement.  The Young Uns did a lovely ‘troubador’ set where they wandered around the pub with accompanying guitar and accordion singing carols and just generally adding to the merriment.  It was another good night. So why not pop down to your local club for a bit of Christmas fun as the year winds down?  It’s only £1 usually for a singaround night, maybe £2 for a guest night over at the FFFC at the Travellers’ Rest, Stockton Road, Hartlepool, where you’re always welcome.  We’ll see you there.

Christmas Party cancelled

Due to lack of interest the Christmas party is cancelled, there will be drinks and small buffet for the regulars on the last sing around of the year on Tuesday 21st December. practice your festive songs and carols and come along and join us at the Travellers Rest in Hartlepool.

Like everything around us, the snow and ice has affected your Hartlepudlian folkies, to the extent that some events have had to be cancelled but it means that we have more time at home to learn songs about mince pies, mulled wines and roaring log fires. At the Foggy Furze Folk Club there was a 15-minute spotlight last Tuesday, 23rd, which was very much appreciated by the gathered audience.

The FFFC is having its Christmas party on Friday, 17 December and their tickets are £3 and there is food, a raffle and prizes for the best dressed punk.  That night will also see the December guests, Fiddlyn Man Doris, who are a 4-piece band centred around Rebekah Findlay and Lynn Geddes, both excellent musicians and we’re really looking forward to that.

The Headland Folk Club are having their Christmas party on Friday, 10 December which is also going to be a fancy dress night but we’re not sure if there’s a theme running.  That’s at the Cosmopolitan on the Headland.  See Sean for tickets.

The Nursery Folk and Acoustic Night are having their Christmas party on Monday, 20th December 2010, with food, a quiz and a raffle planned.  See Yorkie or Di for tickets.

All of the clubs have their usual entry prices (£1) on ordinary singaround nights but the party nights are specials so you will need to speak to the organisers for more details of those evenings outlined about.  FFFC at the Stravllers’ Rest in Stockton Road, Hartlepool, www.foggyfurzefolk.com or kay@foggyfurzefolk.com; Sean Cooney on sean_ts15@hotmail.com; Di on dianejaffa@msn.com.  Mines of information.
