Things are rocking at the Foggy Furze Folk Club along at the Travellers’ Rest in Stockton Road, Hartlepool. Last week was so packed it was just real good fun and this week saw the launch of a new feature – ‘Jan’s Jukebox’. It starts next week all being well, we all know what we’re doing and it’s basically playing to our strengths.
Our next guest is to be Maggie Gee who is a great friend of the club and she appears on Tuesday, 13 July 2010. We were to have Joel and Friends but something’s cropped up and Maggie has stepped in to breach the gap. Thanks Maggie.
This Tuesday also saw the spotlight on our own Mike Hall with four well-selected pieces, two quite well known, two not so regularly heard but excellent choices nonetheless. Very well done Mike, everyone really enjoyed it.
Unfortunately Joel had to stay in Belfast and can’t make it to do the guest night on Tuesday 13th June. One of the clubs best friends Maggie Gee is taking his place, Maggie has a wonderful personal touch, smashing guitar playing and singing old and new songs in a lovely laid back style and is always quick with the wit and funny stories. Maggie is bringing some friends with her to guarantee a smashing night so do your best to get along to the Travellers Rest for a folk night not to be missed.
Our guest this week Rebekah Findley is only new at doing guest nights as a solo performer and my advice to any folk club looking in is to get her booked quickly. Excellent is the adjective I use and not lightly. Rebekah sang and played her way through a lovely set of songs both famous and self composed in a wonderful relaxed layed back style, her friendly disposition shone through and she carried the audience with her song after song. It wont be long before we see her again at this club, I’d like to say thank you Rebekah for a perfect folk night and special thanks for singing Luskentyre.
Next week is a sing around. your welcome to join us at the Travellers Rest in Hartlepool at for an 8 30 kick off.
A canny turn out for a lovely sing around. A rare outing for nights in white satin from John Barlow and Cliff Healey in fine form despite claiming a cold. Jan premièred a new song which was received warmly and a poem from Stan which is becoming a do not miss feature of sing around nights.
Next week on 15th June Rebekah Findley is our guest. Rebekah is an accomplished folk singer and song writer, she plays violin and guitar beautifully, Come along and pleasure your ears listening to this fine musician on Tuesday at the Travellers rest in Hartlepool.(god allotment)
